Watford Chess Club will be among the exhibitors at the Bucks Country Show taking place at the Penn Estate, near Amersham on 4th and 5th May. It will be the first time that the event, which started as an agricultural event but has since widely diversified, has included chess. The chess stall, under a gazebo, should feature club members – juniors as well as adults – taking on all-comers in rapidplay games. Chess & Bridge has also provided a free supply of chess magazines for interested visitors. Full details of the event are at https://www.buckscountryshow.co.uk/
‘We see our participation in this event as having a dual purpose’ says Watford club treasurer Sagar Patel. ‘First, it promotes chess in a new environment attended by thousands of people, and second, if one believes that junior chess clubs are about education as well as entertainment, it gives our junior members – particularly those who live in towns – the chance to experience something new and different’.
