ECF Grassroots Initiative: Regional Coordinator South East England

An opportunity exists to play a part in the ECF Grassroots Scheme. We need a new volunteer coordinator to cover South East England. Your task will be to assess grant applications and make recommendations for approval to the ECF. You would be expected to build a small team spread throughout the South East to help with local knowledge of specific areas.

A description of the scheme may be found here: https://www.englishchess.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Grassroots-Prospectus.pdf and a recent report on the first three tranches of grant applications may be found here: https://www.englishchess.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/ChessMoves-January-2025-Grass-Roots.pdf

Each of the nine regional coordinators has access to £10,000 of grants – from the first three tranches of applications ten have been approved from the South East, but well over half the initial funds remain to be awarded. The area to be covered by the South East coordinator is set out here: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_East_England. This is a voluntary role. The estimated time commitment is five/six days per year.

Interested candidates may contact the Scheme Chairman, ECF Non-Executive Director Stephen Greep Email: sjgreep@gmail.com. The closing date for applications is 1st May 2025. Application is by a simple statement explaining why you think you could take this role on, and giving your relevant experience.
