The World Senior Teams Chess Championships 2022

Dedicated to the memory of David William Anderton OBE

The World Senior Teams Chess Championships are now confirmed for 19th – 30th June 2022 in Acqui Terme, Italy. Anyone born in 1972 or earlier, is eligible to play in one of the England teams at either the 50+ or 65+ (if born in 1957 or earlier) age groups and interested players should complete the registration form and submit it to both Stewart Reuben and Nigel Povah to register their interest – Stewart Reuben at [email protected] and Nigel Povah at [email protected]. It would be very helpful if we could receive early indications of interest from players by 18th March, so we can start to get hotels reserved.

  • Wednesday 29th – Round 9 at 14.00 and Closing Ceremony at 21.30

Teams will comprise of four or five players, with all matches played over four boards, which in the case of a five-player team allows for some team rotation and additional rest days. The Selection committee, led by Stewart, will determine the allocation of players to the various teams but everyone who wishes to participate will be accommodated – provided there are at least 12 players in each age group. When entering, please indicate whether you would prefer a 4- or 5-player team. Also 65+ should indicate whether they are prepared to play in a 50+ team, if required.

All players will need to complete the registration form and return it to Stewart and Nigel, so an ECF entry can be submitted to the Organisers by their deadline on the 25th May. However, in order to secure the hotel accommodation and ensure we can keep all team members together, we would like to have completed registration forms as soon as possible and deposit payments no later than 18th April.  All players will need to pay the organiser’s entry fee and administration charges totalling £80 and all players must stay at one of the designated Tournament hotels, where the rates vary from about £550 in a double room for 11 nights on half-board, up to about £847 in a single room for 11 nights on full board.

If you’re interested, please contact both Stewart Reuben at [email protected] and Nigel Povah at [email protected]
