Oliver Howell
Under 14 – Matthew Howell
I learnt chess at 4 years old and have been a keen player ever since, playing in many successful school and Sussex county teams and winning several National Team titles, including NYCA U12 and U14 with Sussex. In the last few years I have won theWest of England U18 Minor, the Redhill CC (adult) Minor Cup (twice), and have scored 6/6 in International U14 matches. I was runner-up in the English Junior Rapidplay U14 2012 held at the London Classic. I have to keep practicing hard just to stay ahead of my little brother! You can always spot me in team photos – I’m the tall one.
Matthew attends Worth School.

Under 10 – Boris Pastukhov
I am 9 years old and started playing chess competitively at the age of 8, coming third in the British Chess Championships U9 in 2012. I also enjoy other field sports like cricket, football and rugby along with tennis and squash, playing for my school and the local clubs. I would like to thank Bucks Youth Chess Association, in particular Hans Hansen, Ray Sayers, Neville Belinfante, Jonathan Melsom and Brian Lacey; special thanks to Rob Willmoth who recently started a chess club in my school.
I attend the Beacon School in Bucks.
