The event was organised by the White Rose Junior Chess Academy, and supported by the John Robinson Youth Chess Trust. Excellent facilities were provided at this famous Quaker School in the Music Centre. The two coaches were Andrew Ledger from Sheffield, who is an International Master, and Lateefah Messam-Sparks from London who is a famous chess teacher.
The day started with Andrew giving a simultaneous display, followed by a 6-round blitz event. Lateefah presented chess tactics, and four groups were formed. The day ended with Andrew showing, on the display board, one of his games won in under 20 moves. An enjoyable day was had by all, and many children and parents asked us to organise another one – so we plan one in York on Saturday 7th October 2017.
